Clinical Diagnosis & Therapy

Tayside Clinical Technology Workshop

This is intended as a clinical multidisciplinary event bringing together physicians from a number of different specialities to examine the current state of the Sonopill technology development. Our intention is to examine and critique the currently proposed modes of diagnosis and therapy, broaden these modalities to other disciplines and invite further novel means of investigation and intervention.

This workshop will focus on exploring technology and its potential in solving issues encountered in day-to-day practice as identified by the clinicians themselves.

Minimally Invasive Endoscopy Workshop

Engineers and clinicians passionate about minimally invasive endoscopy are invited to an open one-day event which will promote dialogue and a better understanding of clinician’s needs and engineer’s capabilities.

After Professor Paul Swain, a pioneer in capsule endoscopy, has set the scene with his keynote address, the event will discuss Positioning & Localisation, Uses, and Sensing & Actuators. Each part will feature two speakers approaching the subject from clinical and engineering perspectives followed by discussion and open idea sharing.

Sonopill Away Day

The Sonopill team enjoyed a short break at Duchally Country Estate, in the bosky, sunny Perthshire countryside. This gave them a pleasant break from the normal pressures of their research and a chance to work on an integrated time line to carry them through to in vivo testing of an array-based Sonopill.

Dundee Design Festival

As a designated UNESCO City of Design, Dundee will host the first Dundee Design Festival from 25th – 28th May 2016.  The theme of the festival is “Place. Work. Folk. Design.”

One aspect of this theme will explore the potential of design to improve our everyday lives and the Sonopill programme will be exhibited in the context of endoscopic design and innovation through the decades.  The exhibit is structured around a mockup of Sonopill. Scaled up a factor of 10, we have affectionately termed it ‘Sonozilla’.

SET for Britain - Fraser Stewart

A PhD student from the University of Dundee is getting ready to present his biomedical research to a panel of politicians and expert judges next month.
Fraser Stewart has entered Set for Britain, a series of poster competitions and exhibitions in the House of Commons which encourages and promotes Britain’s early-career research scientists, engineers, technologists and mathematicians.
The competition’s gold medalist will receive £3,000, while silver and bronze receive £2,000 and £1,000 respectively.

Meet the Researcher Showcase

Sonopill members participated in the 'Meet the Researchers' event organised by Medical Research Scotland.  The event was held over two days at the Aberdeen Science Centre and the Dundee Science Centre in March, 2016.  Students from various schools across Scotland were given the opportunity to learn about concepts in gastrointestinal imaging and gain insight into the development of Sonopill.  Pupils at the Dundee Science Centre were joined by the Princess Royale, patron of Medical Research Scotland
